Instant Pot Ham and Cabbage Dinner is so easy to make. Ham, cabbage, potatoes, celery, and carrots are all cooked with butter and chicken broth. You are going to love it. Boiled Dinner.

    Ham and Cabbage Dinner

Both of my parents were excellent cooks and great at making big pots of things that went a long way. I have shared a few -Easy Shepherds Pie, although she didn't make it in an instant pot, INSTANT POT CHILI  is basically her recipe. Of course, I bragged on her Mom's Classic Macaroni Salad With Egg. Ham and cabbage usually came after having ham on Christmas or Easter. However, it is also a great St. Patricks Day Dish

    Ham and Cabbage Ingredients

Making Ham and Cabbage Dinner is pretty easy whether you put it in an instant pot pressure cooker as I did, or throw it all in a stockpot on the stove.  As easy as it is to make and as much as I love it, I haven't served it much to my husband and kids.  Seems none of them are fans of cooked cabbage. Yum, I love it with extra butter on the potatoes and some apple cider vinegar for a little bite .- Delicious in my opinion.

    Ham and Cabbage Dinner
Does it Matter What Kind of Ham I Use?

Absolutely not,  I'm sure it would be great with any that you choose. However, personally, I think the more fat the better.

Could a Different Meat be Used?

Sure it is also great with pork chops or if you are like my daughter, and don't eat pork, a turkey breast would be great.

How to Store Left Over Ham and Cabbage :

Ham and Cabbage will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. In an airtight freezer container for 3-4 months.

Ingredients Needed For Instant Pot Ham and Cabbage Dinner:

    • Ham
    • Cabbage
    • Potatoes
    • Celery
    • Carrots
    • Chicken Broth
    • Butter
    • Salt
    • Pepper

How To Make The Ham and Cabbage Dinner:

    1. Cut up  Ham, Cabbage, Potatoes, Celery, Carrots,
    2. Put all in the Instant Pot
    3. Cover with Chicken Broth
    4. Cut up the butter and put on top of meat and vegetables- salt and pepper and any other seasonings you like -to taste

Ham and Cabbage Ready to Serve

What should I serve with the Dinner?-This time I served Pillsbury Refrigerator Biscuits https://www.pillsbury.com/.  My mother just always served bread and butter with every meal. A salad would also go great on the side. If you are looking for a great dessert, how bout No-Bake Chocolate Cream Pie or Cinnamon Apple Turnovers? Suddenly I am hungry just thinking about it.

    Ham and Cabbage Dinner

This dinner is fantastic, whether you use the convenience of the Instant Pot (which I absolutely love) or cook it in a stockpot on top of the stove.  It definitely is great cooked all day in a slow cooker/crockpot also. Whichever way you chose, stop back by and let me know how it came out. Did you make any changes or adjustments? Thanks in advance.

I only had about a cup and a half of chicken broth available. And I dumped that into the instapot over my potatoes and carrots. Do you think this will work I hope so cuz I just put everything in and started my Instant Pot.

I used smoke butt; What was near the top, of a lot of food didn't hold up well under pressure. I'm still looking for celery that I cut too small. Most of the cabbage as we knew it has departed this world. Carrots actually held up well. The potatoes couldn't take the pressure and held up just a bit better than the cabbage. I'm leaving out the salt and mixing the pepper in the broth the next time I try to make this.

As for using smoke butt, middle name is fat, skip the butter!!! I'm thinking this gets quartered and cut when served the next time; and there will be a next time!

The 3 cups of chicken broth ended up with more than double in liquid and maybe cut this one in half???

      The flavor was good.

Thanks for letting me know your experience, as far as the liquid goes, I prefer to have a lot of broth. I would say personal preference.

I just made this recipe and it was awesome. I used my leftover ham for seasoning, low sodium chicken broth, and No salt seasoning. It will be cooked again. I sure love my instapot and the recipes I have used, this one included.

This recipe was a winner. I found I had too much volume for the pot and had to set aside some potatoes, carrots, and cabbage for another day. My veggies must have been large I guess.
The only mod I made was including an onion.
      Thanks for a great meal!

Well, my options were "venting" or "sealing". I didn't know what "natural" was, so I left it on "venting". I almost burned the whole thing. Fortunately, I was in the kitchen the entire time and saw that there was no more steam releasing. The ham was on the bottom and created a nice browning sauce.

This was very good. The first of this kind of recipe I made in my Instant Pot. I didn't have any celery Used spices) and only used 1 1/2 lbs. of ham instead of the 2 it called for and it filled my 6 qt to the brim. I debated making 1/2 at the time but decided to go ahead with it and it worked fine. Next time I will 1/2 the recipe. You should edit the recipe to say it's for an 8 quart pot. I made it for lunch and ate it again for supper. lol Really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!

Stacy, if using boneless pork loin chops, what order should ingredients go in the instant pot?

            Hi Rachel,
I would put the meat in first and add vegetables around them. Hope that helps
