    These Easy Sugar Cookie Bars are frosted with butter cream frosting and are delicious. They are baked on a sheet pan , decorated for the Christmas season and cut into squares.

    Sugar cookies are a personal favorite. Adding frosting makes them extra yummy. We decorated these bars in Christmas colors. However, you could easily change them up for any holiday or event.

    Could Cream Cheese Frosting Be Used Instead of Buttercream?

    Yes absolutely if you prefer cream cheese frosting ,they will taste great.

    How Should Baked Cookies Be Stored ?

    The cookies will stay fresh at room temperature in an air tight container for several days.

    Do You Have to Use Salted Butter ?

    The recipe is tested with salted butter and personally find it much more flavorful. If using unsalted butter, you should add ½ tsp. of salt to the recipe.

    • Granulated Sugar
    • Eggs
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Flour

    • Butter (softened)
    • Powdered Sugar
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Cream
    • Food Coloring
    • Sprinkles

    Easy Sugar Cookie Bars

    • Electric Mixer or Stand Mixer

    Ingredients

    Sugar Cookies

    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 cup salted butter softened
    • 5 cups all purpose flour
    • ½ tsp. salt
    • ½ tsp. baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder

    Butter Cream Frosting

    • 1 cup butter softened
    • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • 3 tbsp. heavy cream
    • food coloring and sprinkles

    Instructions

    Cookies

    • Pre-heat oven to 350°-Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray (13 x 18)
    • In a mixing bowl ,using an electric mixer beat butter and sugar until smooth (3-4 minutes)
    • Next add eggs one at a time mixing after each egg , add vanilla , mix well
    • In a separate bowl , whisk together dry ingredients -flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
    • Add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine well
    • Spread on prepared baking sheet
    • Bake 15-18 minutes until light golden brown. Cool before frosting

    Buttercream Frosting

    • With a hand held electric mixer or stand mixer beat butter until smooth , add vanilla .
    • Slowly add powdered sugar continuing to beat on medium high . Add cream and food coloring until desired color.
    • Spread frosting on cooled cookies . Add sprinkles and sugar as desired.
    • Cut to 18 squares or desired size.
