French Onion Chicken

Chicken Breasts with Onions and cheese in thickened onion gravy

  • 4 Chicken Breasts pound chicken to approximately ½ inch thick
  • 2 large Onions Sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • 4 Slices Provolone Cheese
  • 4 Slices White Cheddar or Swiss Cheese


  • Cooking the Chicken
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat add the olive oil and sliced onions. Sauté until caramelized 6-8 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside .
  • Add in the chicken breasts and cook on each side for 3-4 minutes or until no longer pink. Set aside with the onions.
  • Add the butter and let it melt ,whisk in the flour . Add the beef broth ,Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes until it starts to thicken
  • Reduce heat to low and add chicken and onions back into pan . Top with cheeses - Broil for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Parsley for garnish
